How to Shorten or Extend a Guest's Stay
Learn how to update a reservation when a guest wants to leave earlier or stay longer, while keeping your availability accurate.
Stay-date changes affect inventory, so they should be handled carefully. Whether a guest wants to check out earlier or extend their stay, first confirm that the revised dates do not conflict with another reservation.
For a stay extension:
1. Review the existing reservation.
2. Confirm the requested additional nights.
3. Check availability for those dates.
4. Confirm that no other booking uses the same inventory.
5. Update the reservation through the appropriate booking source.
6. Verify the revised reservation in Homeyhuts.
7. Check the calendar and connected OTA availability.
For a shortened stay:
1. Confirm the guest's revised check-out date.
2. Review the applicable cancellation/change terms.
3. Update the reservation through the appropriate booking source.
4. Check that the released nights are reflected correctly.
5. Verify that the newly available dates can be sold again if appropriate.
For OTA bookings:
If the reservation originated on an OTA, make the modification through the OTA's supported reservation-change process where required. Homeyhuts should then receive the updated reservation information through the integration.
For manual/direct bookings:
Update the reservation in Homeyhuts and handle any payment, refund or additional-charge adjustment separately according to the agreed booking terms.
Example:
A guest originally booked 5–8 January but wants to leave on 7 January. After confirming the change, the night of 7 January may become available again. Conversely, if the guest wants to stay until 10 January, you must first confirm that 8–10 January are available.
Tip: Never extend a stay based only on a verbal confirmation. Check the calendar first so you do not overlap with a future reservation.
