How to Work With Housekeeping Staff
Create a consistent housekeeping process so every guest receives the same standard of cleanliness and preparation.
Housekeeping directly affects reviews and guest satisfaction. Staff should know exactly what “ready” means.
- Define:
- Cleaning areas.
- Linen replacement standards.
- Bathroom cleaning.
- Kitchen cleaning.
- Restocking requirements.
- Waste disposal.
- Damage reporting.
- Final inspection process.
After checkout:
1. Housekeeping receives the turnover instruction.
2. Used linen and waste are removed.
3. Property is cleaned.
4. Supplies are replenished.
5. Damage or maintenance issues are reported.
6. Final inspection is completed.
7. Property is marked ready.
Use photographs or a checklist to standardise quality across staff.
Tip: Separate “cleaned” from “ready.” A room may be clean but still missing towels, toiletries, working equipment or a maintenance fix.
